Gratitude List

This week the girl group ‘The Saturdays‘ switched on the Oxford St Christmas lights; this is normally a clear indication that the high streets are gearing up for Christmas which is precisely seven weeks away today!

Yikes ( or something similar) – I can almost hear you say. This period of the year seems to bring out the worst in people with gluttony at the top of the list.

Who out there sees Christmas as an opportunity to spend as much money and to receive more than they give?

I don’t expect you to be honest and admit that you happily would give up your time for someone else, at probably one of the loneliest times in the year, then to be more concerned about how many Christmas presents you expect to receive.

Christmas has always been a strange time for me, I will admit that I used to always see Christmas as an opportunity to collect gifts until one year I felt so empty and no longer looked forward to this time of year. I started to take my holidays around this period, being away from family and friends for months at a time to almost cleanse myself from the hectic and full on year that I had; one could argue that I was doing a bit of ‘Soul-Searching’.

I needed and wanted to find the balance from working within a challenging industry that can often leave you feeling strained, stressed and numb.

Three years ago I made the decision to stop flying out over the Christmas period and instead volunteer my time. So, I went about to find a charity to volunteer with, this was a homeless Charity called Crisis.

This charity has a key focus on eradicating homelessness, its central point being the Christmas week starting on Christmas day. So, it works out to be seven days exactly before the eve of ‘New Year’s Eve’.

I absolutely enjoyed serving the guests their two out of three square meals a day; it brought such a gratifying feeling that I started to think about how fortunate and blessed I really am.

This gave cause for me to find out what else I could be grateful for which I have decided to share with you and put into a list below.

  1. I am so happy and grateful now that I wake up each morning with a strong feeling of self worth and self-belief.
  2. I am so happy and grateful now that I am in good health.

  1. Gave me lots to think about and remind me what I should be grateful for too. Thank you for that simple reminder.

    • Thanks for your comment Angee. Yes – it is easy for us to forget what we should be greatful for; in the very least showing gratitude gives way to more good things to come into our lives.

      Peace 🙂
