Here is a question you do not get asked often – “What are your core values in life?”
Every day we make choices, some without careful consideration. Whether we realise it or not, the choices we make are based on the values we hold. Values are the beliefs, attitudes and judgements we prize. Values are your personal standards.
They let you know what is important to you. When we behave in accordance with our values there is a feeling of congruency to our experience. We feel fulfilled as a person.
When we are unaware of, out of touch, or act in conflict with our values, life can become empty. All of us have values, but only some of us are aware of what our deepest values are. Values are unique to the individual that holds them.
Our values direct and shape our focus, they influence how we act and conduct ourselves. When an individual is aware of his or her values, their behaviour becomes more focused and they are more likely to have their values fulfilled.
Someone who is unaware or not sure of their core values can find themselves striving towards their goals and achieving outcomes in their life, only to be less than fulfilled or satisfied with the results.
Set a value driven path for your life, otherwise you may find yourself climbing the ladder of success’, only to find it is leaning against the wrong wall.
Consider the words of Ayn Rand, ‘Happiness is that state of consciousness which proceeds from the achievement of one’s values.’
