Transitioning…one day at a time

Happy Monday! Back in the UK, after an interesting week in the USA. It’s been three years since I was last stateside – it’s great to see there are more healthier food options like U Food Grill, popping up as an alternative to some of the other fast food chains.

This week has been a reminder that getting healthier, losing weight, sorting out finances, or whatever else we resolved to do this year, just doesn’t happen overnight – once we have made a commitment to change, we need to get the obstacles out of our way, say goodbye to the old way and create a roadmap for the next leg of our desired journey.

Last week whilst I was away I completed a certification programme for people that lead organisational change and manage the process of how people transition through change.

One of the personal messages I took away from the programme was that when we decide to make a change in our life, we often don’t factor in the ‘internal’ resistance we will face due to the piece of ourselves we often have to leave behind.

The reality is, that in order to create a new reality – whether that is, to become a person that thinks more positively, reduces their blood pressure, maintains a healthy weight, gets more active, increases their income, develops or strengthens loving relationships – we first need to recognise who we are today; be present, find a way to say goodbye to the past, (thank it for the lessons) and create our new reality one day at a time.
